Are you brainstorming unique ways to create a social network for your community, even when you’re on the go? Many aspiring bloggers start out writing about their passion in their free time, long before their site becomes a sustainable business. But in our fast-paced, smartphone-driven society, providing constant content and connection is critical for building a community and establish an audience.

A recent study by the Pew Internet Project found that 87 percent of smartphone users access the Internet when they’re out and about, and 68 percent do so every day. If you’re not already using social media to drive traffic to your site, consider creating a social network where your users can connect. Instead of waiting for readers to visit your site, you’re reaching out to them directly through the phones in their pockets. Reminding readers about new content, providing coupons for your site, or highlighting a new feature through social media are all ways that creating a social network can drive traffic to your site.

When creating a social network, strive to build a site that will draw users right from the start. Important strategies include choosing the right name, creating a cohesive brand with the look and feel of the network, providing plenty of interactive features that allow members to share links and photos as well as connect with you and with each other, and making sure you choose a dependable host for your web application.

If these ideas are inspiring and you’re thinking of creating a social network for your online community, keep in touch with Groupiest. In addition to the online features we currently offer, we’ll soon be launching a mobile application so you can manage your social network on the go right from your smartphone. With users finding each other on Facebook and tweeting on Twitter 24-7, the social network is the future of online marketing.

Google Reader provides a public page where users can share items with friends and family, as well as customers and prospective clients. The two best features of Google Reader are that it is free and there is no software to install in order to use it.

That having been said, Google recently announced, via the Official Google Blog, that Google Reader will be closed on July 1, 2013. Google sited two “simple” reasons; namely, declined usage and Google’s wish to focus on fewer products.

Many social networking individuals and companies are now trying to identify Google Reader alternatives? Truth be told, there are many alternatives where the same type of platform is offered. At the top of this list is our platform, Groupiest, which can be perused at http://groupiest.com/en/. Groupiest operates on the same principle as Google Reader, but an additional feature on Groupiest allows users to gain credibility for their shared news and posts. Our Google Reader alternative is even moving one step further. On Groupiest, users can create their own websites, showcasing their views and opinions on the subject matter that is already found on the Internet. In effect, users can develop and create their own social networks. Groupiest is for individuals, to build strong relationships with people who possess similar interests, as well as for small businesses or companies, to communicate with their customers and prospective clients in order to increase leads and exchange information at a faster rate. Furthermore, businesses can construct their own communities and analyze the traffic on the site to better meet their customer’s needs.

Go to http://groupiest.com/en/ to learn more, ask questions, and even see the “coming soon” features.

Yahoo! News published our press release covering Groupiest’s launch:

Barcelona based startup, Groupiest, has officially launched on April 10 2013. The team has been overwhelmed with feedback and comments received on the design of the website, the functionality of the tool as well as color scheming since it has been in public beta and has taken the time to integrate some of the suggestions into the tool.

“Hate that purple,” was one of the comments Groupiest received from a user who tried using the tool while it was still in development. Groupiest listened and adapted.

“It starts out looking kind of ugly and empty which means it will be a lot of work to create.” Groupiest followed-up with the user, listened and adapted.

“The website has too much going on and is not very clear.” Groupiest listened and adapted.

Groupiest is a tool that allows passionate users to build their own community of interest through content posting and re-publishing. It is an easy-to-use one-stop-shop tool where users pick a topic, select related keywords and the platform streamlines all the related content from the web for the user. The community owner can then wish to ‘curate’ or simply edit the content and publish it on their community. This sort of a tool brings like minded individuals together, easily allows users to gain web presence differentiating them from the myriad of content available on the web and does not require much time, effort and knowledge that are needed to maintain a personal blog.

Groupiest CEO, Aakriti Gupta, acknowledges that little did she know about content curation before she got on board and started to explore the business opportunity. She says, “The web now has so much information that there is a need to better funnel the content down to what is really relevant to you and enhance interaction by linking people together. Basically there are three things that one should be aware of: you can’t be a Pro in everything, you can build credibility by citing other reputable content around the web and curation makes it possible to have a mix of content types.”

What’s special about Groupiest is that it allows the curator to set-up a platform for discussion boards and forums making it a social network. For example, a History teacher at a middle school could use Groupiest to share news, articles, images and videos on US History with her 8th Grade class and set-up forums and discussion boards for her students to comment and discuss on certain topics. This not only connects people together from opposite sides of the world but also opens a myriad of debate, opinions and suggestions for the curator.

Changes you can expect between Groupiest in public beta and Groupiest today:

A new and improved website with a clear message and descriptions of benefits from creating your own community.

User friendly and more intuitive structure of both the backend and frontend look and feel of the tool.

Added features integrated via collaborations with reputed partner companies.

It’s free of charge, give it a shot. Visit http://groupiest.com/

This is the second part of the interview published in Nibletz about Groupiest:

What problem does Groupiest solve?

Groupiest has identified two key problems that it has identified a combined solution for:

First, online bloggers represent a huge target audience in the online world. The tool provides such users with a faster, easier and more integrated platform of ‘blogging’. In addition, there exists a need to provide utmost value add to users with thorough knowledge of a particular topic, but who do not have the desire, time or appropriate skills for writing. Such users can leverage the tool to monetize their knowledge, gain credibility through their personal domain and of course communicate with individuals that share similar passions. In such cases, the value is on the channel that the user has created as well as the selection of content. Groupiest is a tool to help in this selection of content and automate the publication, complementing the original content of the community. It is easily customizable according to the domain and user style without the need for programming knowledge. The tool is also fully integrated with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube to distribute content.

Second, the platform assists in providing greater reach for SOHO owners that have developed their products and/or services but are not able to reach their target customers due to lack of knowledge on customer behaviors, interests and/or needs. Groupiest assists such companies to analyze customers’ social signals, interact with them and streamline their efforts to reach the appropriate target segment.

The market today does not provide a solution to meet such needs. For example, existing technologies do not allow users to use the created community as their own personal domain, i.e., the communities are integrated within the technology and the credibility is in the hands of the technology itself.

Groupiest focuses to bridge these gaps seen in the existing social networking tools and has developed a technology that improves the process of creating content based on existing content on the network. This process is known as “healing content” and accounts for 90% of new content generated daily on the network. Groupiest automatically collects and filters content for the user, thereby providing daily tips to the publishers or content curators to publish the contents. Once the specialized community is created by the user, he/she can use it as his/her own domain to share it on the web.

What’s your secret sauce?

We have an extremely young and energetic team, aged between 20-30 years, that are passionate about technology and love to explore and discover new ideas. Individuals that are not afraid to try new things and experiment.

Are you bootstrapped or funded?

Groupiest has recently received a loan and is actively looking for investors.

What is your goto market strategy?

Individuals:

The audience of Bloggers mentioned above is extremely difficult to target through traditional marketing means. To begin with, we will get in touch with bloggers through the following online sources:

- Google Blog search – search by topic

- Twitter search – find bloggers by what they tweet about

- Postrank Topics – search by topic

Groupiest has a unique and profitable six step marketing process to target our blogger segment. This process includes:

- Reach out to bloggers through existing database of contacts

- Follow bloggers on Twitter and Facebook

- Comment on blog posts

- Set-up Google Alerts and comment on articles posted by bloggers

- Attend blogger meet-ups and events in Barcelona to pitch the tool

- Set up a Bing Webmaster Tool account and verify it

Businesses:

The benefits that Groupiest provides to businesses is that of having a better interaction with their customers. Since such businesses are typically limited on human resources, using a tool like Groupiest can be extremely beneficial to them. It does not require numerous dedicated marketing efforts, technological expertise and is extremely easy. The owner is able to very efficiently create a community of his/her own, brand it by personalizing it to his/her own domain (just like a personal website) and start to develop traffic of users. In addition, they can utilize their customer behaviors, get feedback from them and remodel their product/service to their needs.

In the short run, Groupiest plans to reach out to these businesses through the following sources:

- Barcelona Activa – hold a conference and showcase a prototype of the product to the start-ups

- Reach out to small businesses who have their testimonials on some of the small business coaching websites such as Free Green Beans etc.

- Attend conferences such as VMWorld etc. that hold a meet-up for companies to transform their businesses

Source: http://www.vmwareemeablog.com/

- Be present on local media such as newspapers and technology magazines

In addition to the personal interaction Groupiest tends to have with such companies, it also intends to be present and promote the tool through online sources:

- Blog articles and comment on articles that suggest a need for a service that Groupiest provides

- Write a “how-to” article that addresses Groupiest’s niche on Wikihow.com or Answers.com

- Make a slideshow of Groupiest’s how-to video and upload to YouTube

Overall marketing strategy consists of:

- Product reviews

- SEO

- Google Adwords

- Affiliate Marketing

- Press releases

What’s one challenge you’ve overcome in the startup process?

As a new CEO, I have seen how difficult it is to forecast planning and manover the team to adhere to it strictly. It has been imperative to not only set strict deadlines but also be flexible in terms of listening to your team to understand what is doable and be able to re-schedule whenever necessary. Sometimes it can get frustrating but I think that I have now been able to understand the importance of planning and re-planning – an ongoing process, especially when the company is in the beginning stages and the product is being developed and revised. In addition, I have learnt that a task is best communicated when it is written down and documented after a verbal discussion to reiterate the importance of the task. Per my experience, when this was not done previously, it was very often granted as unimportant and not accomplished.

Who are some of your mentors and business role models?

Unfortunately, my answer to this question is the usual cliche’d one. I have been brought up in the Middle East in a family of businessmen. My father has been running his own business for several years and my brother has also followed his footsteps. I have watched him during his ups and downs and have never really seen him worried or disgruntled with anyone. All of his reasoning behind work related things are practical and he always preaches to never look back at things from the past but instead tries to get the most out of them and apply his learning in future tasks. He is always very broad minded and likes to think big because he believes that only then you are able to eventually achieve the little things that will give you the feeling of accomplishment.

What’s next for Groupiest?

Groupiest is focusing on the following efforts:

- Continuous product development

- Global business development

- Seeking investment

- Looking for partners

- Focusing on marketing efforts to generate traffic and customers

In this section we are including all the press mentions about our company. This time, it’s Nibletz, the voice of startups everywhere else, who published an interview with Aakriti Gupta, CEO of Groupiest:

When you scale down social networks to their core, you’ll quickly realize that they’ve been around a lot longer than Facebook. MMC groups on AOL, bulletin boards on Prodigy and even dial in BBS’ back in the 80′s would equate to what has evolved into the current social network. Albeit today’s social networks have many more features, users and points of entry.

While Facebook continues to grow, and currently tops over 1 billion users, siloed or vertical social networks are starting to pop up all over the place. You have your one big public network and than you have your “clubs”. So what if there is no network for your interest yet? You could opt to be entrepreneurial and create a startup for it, with a practical likeliness of failing. Or you can find a startup that lets you create your own mini social networks.

That platform is Barcelona startup Groupiest.

Groupiest allows users to create their own community of interest for free (read mini-social network). Using Groupiest users can share what their passionate about and build their own personal brand in their own network of like minded folks. Think Yahoo Groups or even Usenet on steroids.

We got a chance to talk with the founders of Groupiest. Check out the interview below:

What is Groupiest?

Groupiest is an online tool allowing users to create their own community of interest for free. Groupiest enables individual users or companies to share relevant content by developing a unique social network. The tool is aimed at those users that are willing to share their passion and monetize their knowledge by communicating through their own personal brand.

In layman’s terms, how does it work? (In other words how would you explain it to your grandmother)

Groupiest is an online technology through which you can create your own website in a few minutes. You just have to select the topics that you are interested in and what information from all over the web from, then you can edit the content and just click to publish it on your website. You can then start discussion boards with members of your community/website and share your website on Facebook, Twitter etc. All this for free!

Who are the founders and what are their backgrounds?

Groupiest was born under the incubator company called Appstylus in 2010. As of 2012 it has become independent. It was founded by Guillem Cuberes, who is a 20 year old programming Geek! He has topped his class as a Computer Technician. He is a regular speaker at conferences and is a very motivated individual. Mr. Guillem is also a Systems Management Specialist and a winner in the Catskills programming contest. He has five years experience in Acebes Communications, guru Plaa3 in search engine optimization. He is an expert in technical team management and has extraordinary leadership skills as an entrepreneur.

Aakriti Gupta is the director of the company. She is currently pursuing her MBA from IESE Business School in Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining MBA school, Aakriti worked as an IT Auditor at Ernst and Young, Chicago and Dubai for four years. Ernst and Young is a leading Big 4 Accounting firm focused on providing auditing and consulting services to clients. During her tenure at the company, Ms. Aakriti worked closely with clients in the technology and manufacturing industries providing them with IT consulting services. She has mentored and managed a sizeable team of auditors from diverse cultures and backgrounds on her various projects. Additionally, originally being from India and having lived in UAE and the United States for most of her career, she has a vast knowledge of different environments and experience with international clients.

Previous to that, Ms. Aakriti acquired experience in her family business in Dubai in the field of construction of real estate. She was responsible for managing the financials of the company and understanding the basic skills required to develop a medium sized business.

Aakriti has received her BBA from Indiana University, Bloomington (USA) with a focus in Finance and Information Systems and has also completed a few courses from University of California, Berkeley (USA).

Where are you based?

Headquartered in Barcelona, Spain. We also have business developers on the United States.

What’s the startup scene/culture like where you’re based?

Booming! Even with the deteriorating economy, there has not been a noticeable effect on the startup scene in Barcelona. Barcelona has still continued to be the home to small businesses and almost 98% of the businesses in Barcelona are small and medium sized businesses. This is because of the ease of starting up a business and the government assistance that is provided for the same. Groupiest has already received several opportunities to present themselves to investor forums, participate in startup pitch competitions etc. and these openings are endless.

How did you come up with the idea for Groupiest?

At the beginning stages of the Internet when people began using the net for more than searches, it seemed as though a frameset was still a good idea, and the best we had were the forum based communities. Then came the blogs, first adopted by a privileged few and later on seemed to be popular amongst all. The two major market solutions, Blogger and WordPress, were positioned to reach stratospheric levels. People did use the blog for all its simplicity and were caught by the netizens very strongly.

At the peak of blogs, Facebook and Twitter arrived, the next generation of tools for publishing and sharing information. With social networks, exactly the same outcome happened as was with blogs: at first only several Geeks used it, then it became much more popular, and later on people used them for anything regardless of the developers’ intention. Finally, the current situation is somewhat different.

Regardless, all the above mentioned technological progress have not made some of the listed solutions deserted. There are still several users of forums, blogs, companies and associations continue to use WordPress as a general purpose content management system and Facebook continues to dominate the market by capturing a large number of users.

With this situation, the Internet is very active and open minded to new products and this is where Groupiest is making a difference. Eventually people use all the popular tools in their own way and for things completely different than that that was intended by the brain behind it all. Why not develop a product that is designed to do anything?

How did you come up with the name?

The name was originated with the idea of allowing the final user to develop a website that is segmented into Groups. The idea is to have all the content within groups instead of creating a huge website with everything.

¨We need a designer. Everything is ready but we are missing one very important thing: to work on the user interface so we create a good user experience for our clients.” That’s all they needed to say to convince me to come on board. And here I am.

I started working with Groupiest not too long ago. However, as Groupiest and it’s team have been “on the road” for a bit longer, the first thing I felt I needed to do was to get to know the product. I felt I needed to know it’s strong and weak points so I could be an asset and provide quality work: it’s all about improvement, but you need to know the product first. Groupiest is a powerful tool, with many features included and great opportunities to customize your own community of interest!

Once this induction was done, I started working with the interface. I suddenly found out that my colleagues can create a great experience with the interface. They are genuine 100% ‘code-ninjas’ and they make my job much more easy. Obviously, let’s not forget about our CEO, who has everything under control and knows how to guide us. A special mention goes also to our marketing director, our personal spokesperson, the one in charge of spreading out the good news about our great product: Groupiest is here!

From a humble designer point of view, it’s just amazing to work here and see that the rest of the team is able to program everything you design. And yes, we have loads of fun while working to make Groupiest the best tool for you all!

Join us!

Writer: Susana E Adams
Role: Marketing Director

I have been responsible for the online marketing of Groupiest for several months now. To learn more about the tool, at first I did some tests with my own social networks, one of Harry Potter and another of miniatures for dollhouses. Since then, I have been excited about my community and I am eager to get home to devote a few minutes to it.

When my family and my friends ask me what I do, I say I’m on blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, YouTube, forums and such for the most part of my day. They tell me that they get fired for what I get paid. Handling online marketing for Groupiest is cool!

I expect a very prosperous future because I greatly enjoy watching the Groupiest community grow and grow bigger each day.

When this happens, I would like to brag that my community was amongst the first to be made, that I was the first fan of Groupiest on Facebook and that I tweet with Groupiest since it started off with only a few followers. I’m looking forward to this journey!

I hope you join me on the road!

Most individuals who are looking to generate revenue using the Internet engage in diverse activities that may include placing Google ads on their website. Cost-per-click (CPC) is used to quantify the amount of users who click on ads placed on a website, and pay the website owner accordingly. Cost-per-impression (CPI) is another tool that measures the number of times an ad has been loaded and viewed on a website. Other alternatives to earn additional income include selling products online or paid subscriptions to services provided to your clients. However, most of these activities require a substantial initial investment to build your website, update it frequently and ensure content relevance to your audience. You need to be continuously concerned about what to write and publish on your website to ensure user traffic.

Groupiest helps create and maintain your website with less effort at a substantially lower cost.

Groupiest is a new platform that allows you to:

* Create your website with just a few clicks, which costs you almost nothing.

* Publish and update the content on your website with several clicks, which allows you to have content relevant to your target audience with no significant efforts.

* Choose what content to publish on your website depending on the interests of your audience, which keeps your followers engaged, informed and entertained.

If you are looking to publish information about products or services you offer to potential clients, then Groupiest allows you to place industry-specific content for a precisely targeted audience. You may use this increased visibility and popularity to generate revenue by placing advertising on your Groupiest web page. Online revenue generation is achieved with significantly less investments and effort.

Online revenue generation may be enhanced by using new technology and following online trends.

It is easy to build your website on Groupiest, which offers a new platform to engage a targeted audience and generate relevant discussions. If you stay connected to emerging online technologies and trends, then the potential to generate revenue using your website grows substantially. Although traditional ways to monetize your website may work for now, consider adopting new technologies and platforms that allow you to become more cost-efficient in your efforts.

Twitter and Facebook are perhaps not the fastest way to build a fan following, because you are not focusing on your customer and you are not communicating with them through a platform. For example, a Facebook Group/Company page is simply promoting the company to everyone on Facebook, which is blind marketing and not really giving the audience content to compare to what others in the industry are doing. Twitter lacks an easier tool to communicate with their members on issues or topics through forums and discussion boards.

Groupiest is one tool which quickly allows a business to build an audience and gain publicity. This widget is useful in creating a custom tailored social network, without the need for technical knowledge

How exactly does Groupiest allow you to build an audience quickly?

*By publishing quality content from reputable sources around the web

*By allowing maximum interactivity between users

*By allowing sharing with other social networks and communicating with one’s users and community members

With Groupiest everything is visible in one platform; for instance, a small business will find it useful to have a complete updated outlook of related industries, including relevant tweets from competitors. In comparison to Facebook or Twitter, Groupiest has a wider scope allowing much more than marketing one’s own brand.

For any online business, whether firmly established or new, it is imperative to gain online publicity. Eventually this helps in building an audience or a fan following, and can help immensely in the growth of a business. Content which provides quality and is relevant to what an audience wishes for, helps in doing all of the above, and having the right tool makes everything easier. Groupiest is amongst the widgets which will provide the amount of functionality needed to build a strong relationship between business and clients.
